Netherlands-based Giga Storage is progressing its massive Green Turtle battery energy storage project in Belgium after increasing capacity and assembling construction team

By ESS news

GIGA Storage Belgium is preparing to build the largest battery energy storage system in continental Europe. The Green Turtle battery park on the Rotem industrial estate in Dilsen-Stokkem, in the northeast of Belgium, will also be even larger than previously announced.

GIGA Storage Belgium initially announced that it would build a battery with a capacity of 600 MW and a storage capacity of 2,400 MWh. It obtained an irrevocable permit for construction mid-April.

However, after “technical optimization”, the project’s proponents expanded the project to 700 MW/2,800 MWh, which corresponds to the average annual energy consumption of 385,000 households.
