Chilean renewable energy developer Verano Energy has broken ground on a 200 MW solar project in Mendoza, western Argentina. The project must be completed before the end of 2025.

According to an update on LinkedIn, Verano Energy has fully developed the project, with all registrations, environmental impact assessments and electrical studies completed.

The company said it is working with a “leading renewable energy company” to secure the grid connection. The project is said to be ideally located due to its surroundings high radiation, optimal terrain conditions, easy accessibility and proximity to a substation.

Figures from Argentina’s state electricity market operator show that the country has exceeded the standard 1.3 GW of the cumulative solar capacity at the end of 2023.

Major solar projects announced in the country this year include 305 MW to be developed by the Argentinian energy company YPF Luz and a total of two projects 273 MWled by the Argentinian energy company Genneia.
