The upcoming second renewable energy auction in Serbia, scheduled for later this month, aims to purchase 124.8 MW of solar power with a ceiling price of €72 ($75.30)/MWh. This price is lower than the ceiling of €90/MWh offered last year at the country’s first renewable energy auction.

The Serbian government has established the regulatory framework for the country’s second renewable energy auction.

The auction plans to procure 124.8 MW of solar power plants with an approved capacity of 500 kW and above, along with 300 MW of wind power plants with an approved capacity of 3 MW and above.

A maximum price has been set of €72/MWh for solar projects and €79/MWh for wind projects.

These figures are lower than the ceiling prices of €90/MWh for solar energy and €105/MWh for wind energy that were available at the country’s first renewable energy auction.

According to details available on the website of the Association of Renewable Energy Sources of Serbia (OIE Srbija), the second auction will officially start later this month.

Serbia’s first auction walked in 2023, purchasing 50 MW of solar energy and 400 MW of wind energy. The lowest bid for solar energy, announced in August 2023amounted to €0.08865/kWh.

Serbia this year announced the development of several large-scale solar energy projects, including a deal for 1 GW of solar energy spread over six locations and a 1 GW solar panel factory. Work is also underway on the state-owned company Elektroprivreda Srbije first solar project.

This is evident from figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Serbia had deployed a total of 137 MW of solar energy by the end of 2023.
