Enphase Energy has released new software to help homeowners install larger solar and battery systems without major electrical panel upgrades. It uses real-time measurements of current transformers to make immediate decisions.

The American Enphase Energy has released new software that intelligently manages the power to prevent overloading the busbar while guaranteeing maximum solar and battery yield.

Busbar Power Control software allows homeowners to install larger solar and battery systems without major electrical panel upgrades.

“This advanced technology is designed to maximize the power of solar and battery systems while ensuring the safety of the busbar, the metal bar in the main electrical panel that distributes power to the home,” the company said in a statement declaration. “Enphase Power Control software does this by intelligently analyzing and managing the energy from solar panels, batteries, electric vehicle (EV) chargers, the electrical grid and home consumption.”

The system uses current transformers (CTs) to measure energy production, consumption and import/export from the grid, sending data to the IQ Gateway brain. The IQ Gateway then makes real-time decisions to manage power flow and protect the busbar. Enphase said the Busbar Power Control software is available as an update to its Power Control software.

“This software can optimize savings from self-consumption solar and battery electricity, and increase power exports to the grid, maximizing the value of electricity tariffs under dynamic tariff structures such as NEM 3.0,” the company said. “In California, during certain months with the highest electricity rates, homeowners could see hundreds of dollars in value with Busbar Power Control software. Customers can also save thousands of dollars by avoiding an electrical panel upgrade.”
