Researchers from the French National Solar Energy Institute (Ines) – a division of the French alternative energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) – And Italian renewable Stabrieken Specialist Enel Green Power claims to have achieved a power conversion efficiency of 30.8% for a two-terminal Tandem PEROVSKIET Silicon solar cell.

The cell consists of a top cell based on a perovskiet -absorber and a soil cell with a hetero junction (HJT) structure. It has an active area of 9 cm².

The scientists said that the new result improves the efficiency of 29.8% that they achieved in September for the same type of cell, without providing technical details about cell improvement.

“The decisive factor is the ability of our researchers to continue the tandem in the direction of an industrialization made possible by choosing materials that, by working closely with CEA at Ines, have enabled this technology to Areas that are larger than CM², “said Cosimo Gerardi, Chief Technology Officer at Enel’s Unit 3Sun, in September.

Enel Green Power Gambles through his unit 3sun on an N-type Heterojunction (HJT) cell with an efficiency of 25.5% for its new 3 GW Solar Module Factory that is now under construction in Catania, southern Italy. It recently said that this could lead to module efficiency above 24%.

From 2026, Enel Green Power is planning to offer even more efficient solar modules based on tandem-silicon-perovskiet cells. The end products are said to achieve the efficiency of around 30%.

CEA-Eens and Enel Green Power have jointly developed DC/DC-Maximal Power Point Trackers (MPPT). They also work on very efficient bifacial PV panels. In addition, in March 2022 they achieved a power conversion rating of 24.47% for a Gallium-doped P-Type heterojunction silicon solar cell.
