In July 2024, the Ministry of Energy (DIY) said are of the Philippines Next auction for renewable energy Would be strongly focused on integrating renewable energy and energy storage systems (IRESS). Initially, the auction would be held in the last quarter of 2024, but now the DIY is only to outline the details of the Green Energy auction, (GEA-4), now. The GEA-4 is the Philippines fourth auction of renewable energy, but the first to concentrate on Iress.

Despite the delay, the government remains true to its earlier statement to integrate storage into the transition from the renewable energy of the country. GEA-4 will add 9,378 MW of new capacity of solar sun-mounted solar sun, floating solar and on-hore wind projects mounted on the roof. Linking sun plants with battery energy storage systems (BESS) will be the most important strategic focus.

The Philippines focus on an extra 1,100 MW of solar capacity equipped with energy storage under GEA-4. The solar and bES projects are expected to improve the reliability and flexibility of the network and at the same time support the growing demand for electricity of the country. Each project must have a minimum storage time of four hours to guarantee sufficient grid support and energy reliability.
