Panama installs 143.4 MW new solar energy in 2024 – PV Magazine International

Panama built 143.4 MW new solar sun in 2024, which brought the total installed PV capacity to 695.55 MW to 695.55 MW by the end of the year.

Panama installed 143.39 MW new PV capacity in 2024, according to the National Public Services Authority (ASEP).

By the end of December, the total installed solar capacity of the country had reached 695.55 MW, accounting for 13.79% of the capacity of national electricity generation.

The total installed capacity of Panama in 2024 amounted to 5,045.09 MW, including 2,165.97 MW of thermal capacity (42.93%), 1.847.57 MW of hydropower (36.62%), 336 MW of wind energy (6.66%) and the newly implemented –

Of this total, 4,499.04 MW (89.18%) came from plants that supply public electricity in the National Electricity System (SIN), 493.72 MW (9.79%) of self-generation plants that are also connected to SIN and 52.33 MW (1.04%) from stand-alone systems.

In 2024, Panama generated 13,147.04 GWh of electricity, in which hydropower contributed 60.08%, thermal plants 27.07%, wind energy 5.09%and PV energy 7.76%.

The energy plan of the country 2016 set an objective of 70% penetration of renewable energy by 2050.
