The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said that India has added a record of 25 GW to renewable energy capacity in Fiscal 2024-25, an increase of 35% compared to the 18.57 GW of the previous year.

Solar energy led the growth, with capacity outbursts that rise 38% from 15 GW in tax 2024 to almost 21 GW in tax 2025. India also surpassed 100 GW installed solar capacity this year.

While the country insists on self-reliance in the production of solar energy, the production capacity of module almost from 38 GW doubled in March 2024 to 74 GW in March 2025, while the production capacity of PV cells tripled from 9 GW to 25 GW. India’s first Ingot-Wafer production facility, with 2 GW capacity, also started production in Fiscal 2025.

Under the production -linked incentive (PLI) scheme for highly efficient solar modules, investments amounted to $ 4.8 billion, creating around 11,650 direct jobs. The Subsidy scheme for residential solar energy on the roofPM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, has also been considerably expanded.

“India may already have become the third largest holder of renewable energy capacity in the world,” said Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Shri Prahlad Joshi. “This milestone is proof of the vision of Premier Modi for a sustainable and self -reliant energy seeker.”
