India added 23,823 MW of solar capacity in tax 2025, which marked an increase of 58.5% compared to the previous year. Projects on Nuts scale, strong growth on the roof under the PM Surya Ghar scheme and a tripling of off-grid installations provided national implementation, according to JMK Research.

The solar segment on the roof saw 5,148 MW new capacity, an increase of 72% year after year. “This growth was mainly powered by Premier Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which facilitated important capacity extensions in the living sector,” said JMK Research.

Off-grid and distributed solar installations reached 1,785 MW, almost triple the additions of the previous year.

Rajasthan (6.431 MW), Gujarat (3,268 MW) and Maharashtra (2,146 MW) led Zonne installations in Tax 2025.

Gujarat installed the most solar capacity on the roof with 1,649 MW, followed by Maharashtra (1,227 MW) and Kerala (515 MW).

According to Mnre data, the total installed renewable energy capacity of India reached 220 GW in tax 2025. Solar was good for 48%of the total, followed by wind (23%), large hydro (22%), organic power (5%) and small hydro (2%).
