Varco Energy has announced today (April 14) that the full commercial activities started at the Native River Battery Energy Storage System (Bess).
The Native River Bess has a capacity of 57 MW/138MWH and is located just south of Liverpool in the Mersey ring section of the British grid. According to Varco Energy, the Native River Bess, which uses lithium-ion batteries, is one of the longest duration of transmission-connected BESS-ACTIVA in the region.
The project was first announced in September 2023. At that time, you also confirmed Vertova that the modular units of its flex Insverter, Flex Reservoir and Flexiq solutions would supply to build the development.
The active is the first of Varco Energy to come online, and the company expects to reinforce another 250 MW assets in the UK in the coming 18 months. The company currently has a further 275 MW Bess plans in its pipeline.
Richard Whitmore, director of VARCO Energy, the start of commercial activities at the Native River, called a milestone that “represents an important step forward in Varco’s growing portfolio of Bess -Activa”. Whitmore also thanked the Varco team for the delivery of the project and praised their “relentless dedication, expertise and dedication”.
Varco and Arenko scales their ambitions
The Native River Bess is one of many that functions under a software deal of Asset Management between Varco Energy and Arenko.
In September last year, Varco Energy and Arenko corresponded to a deal that will see the Bess assets of Varco Energy, including the Native River Bess, which is integrated into Arenko’s Nimbus Performance software. With this software package, owners of assets can see extensive data about the performance and income of their Bess activa.
The Nimbus performance software uses AI technology to offer Varco energy to automated asset management services. Moreover, Arenko will exchange the battery storage assets from VARCO in the energy market under the deal.
Last year, Varco Energy partner with ethical force saw a 47.5 MW Bess in Cornwall. In July 2024, the two companies announced their plans to develop the Sambar Bess near Newquay, Cornwall, for which ethical power will undertake the electric, mechanical and civilian infrastructure that is needed to connect the project with the National Power Grid. The project is said to be reported online at the second quarter of this year, and you will deliver Bess equipment again for the site.
