The Micro-scale Sun Sector from Poland grew to 1.5 million systems and 12.7 GW in 2024, with a lower growth in both new installations and energy exports, according to the country’s energy regulator.
Poland surpassed 1.5 million registered renewable energy source (RES) micro-installations by the end of 2024, with a total installed capacity of 12.7 GW, according to the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) of the country.
Prosumers said – individuals or entities that both consume electricity and produce – almost 98.6% of these systems, accounting for 12.05 GW of capacity and 8.32 TWH of the 8.5 Total energy exported to the grid in 2024. Almost all installations (99.7%) are PV -systems.
URE registered 1,544,574 on-grid RES-MICRO installations at the end of 2024, but noted a continuous delay in growth on an annual basis. The number of new micro-installations grew by only 10% in 2024, compared to 15% in 2023 and 41% in 2022. The export growth of the energy also delayed, and rises 17% last year after increases of 26% in 2023 and 110% in 2022.
“This continued, albeit slower, the growth in the number of RES installations requires huge investments in the Power Grid infrastructure,” said Renata MROCZEK, Vice -President of Ure. “The actions of this regulator, including the charter for an effective transformation of the distribution systems of the Polish energy sector (KET), have succeeded in planning an increase in expenditure on the upgrade. The operators will be a total PLN 130 billion ($ 34.5 billion) for expansion and upgrades of the grid of the grid of the grid of the grid.” “
Most prosumer systems are concentrated on the networks of Tauron Dystrybucja and PGE Dystrybucja, which together receive two-thirds of the total host and the same share of exported energy from micro-installations.
For the first time, URE RES micro-installations owned by Prosumer collectives in 2024, with a combined capacity of 0.113 MW and export of a total of 87.8 MWh. But the report contains no information about virtual prosumers, since the applicable regulations only come into force on 2 July 2025.
RES-MICRO installations benefit from simplified procedures, including fast network connections, apart from balance costs and guaranteed sales to designated ‘compulsory sellers’. Prosumers work under a network or network-billing model, depending on when their systems are connected.
The URE report is based on annual files of distribution system managers and drawn up on the basis of Article 6a (2) (1) of the law of the renewable energy sources of Poland.
