Developer of renewable technology Shawton Energy has signed an agreement with the Co-op Group to support the rollout of the Ruiting of Solar PV of the retail giant.

Shawton Energy works together with SOL PV as a delivery partner and designs, develops and manages the SOLAR PV systems on the roof on important co-op locations using a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model. This allows cooperative to make considerable energy and cost savings without having to make an investment of the investment in advance. Co-op now buys the electricity from Shawton Energy at a plane, discount rate. Although this rollout has currently only dealt with a few of the more than 2500 store locations of the cooperative, there will remain potential for expanding this partnership in the future.

In comments on the New Deal, Jamie Shaw, CEO of Shawton Energy, the “robust” climate action plan of the cooperative, praised that the store chain will see considerable protection against the volatility of the energy market under this deal. Shaw concluded: “Securing a place on the co-op framework is a fantastic opportunity for Shawton Energy, expanding our customer base and continuing to solidify our familiar position in completing high-quality, large-scale solar port folio outing.”

Tony Waite, CEO of SOL PV Group, added that the deal is a “fantastic step” to help the British retail sector to reduce the emissions, and notes: “By using our expertise in large-scale commercial PV installations, we want to help the CO-Op Group to lower the cargo emissions.”

The PPA solution from Shawton Energy appears to be successful

This is not the first important deal with a well -known British chain that Shawton Energy agreed this year. In March of this year, the company announced that it had concluded an agreement with the operator of the Health and Wellness Club The Bannatyne Group, which has installed solar panels on the roofs of a number of his health clubs, hotels and spa’s under a similar PPA agreement as Shawton Energy with co-op.

According to the Bannatyne group, the installations, which consist of 967 panels and 11 inverters at eight locations in the UK, have already delivered considerable energy savings to the group. Since their completion, each of the eight locations has reportedly achieved energy saving up to 25%.

Earlier in 2025, Shawton Energy expanded its development frame when it acquired an 8.6 MW solar project in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, from one planet. The nameless project granted a building permit last year and is now in the ready-made development phase.
