Longi shows interest in solar production in Algeria – PV Magazine International

A delegation from the Chinese Modulemaker Longi met officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mining van Algeria last week to discuss cooperation that would support the Interior Solar Market of Algeria, including a facility for solar production.

The Chinese solar module manufacturer Longi showed an interest in developing a solar production facility in Algeria during a recent meeting with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mining of the country.

A spokesperson for Longi told PV -Magazine That the company presented its newest very efficient Back-Contact (BC) solar technology and discussed the potential for localized production in Algeria, in accordance with industrial development and the national integration strategy of the country.

‘The Algerian government has expressed strong support for projects that create industrial value and welcomed the dedication of Longi to contribute to sustainable industrialization, “the spokesperson added.

The ministry said in a statement that the discussions were also aimed at revising ways to improve cooperation between companies in the sector. Investment options in solar projects, green hydrogen technology and energy storage in Algeria were also tackled.

“The meeting offered the opportunity to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation, in particular in the field of locating the solar panel industry in Algeria, based on solar cells,” the ministry said. “This will contribute to improving local content in the field of renewable energy and supporting Algeria’s ambitions to become an industrial and export platform.”

The two parties also discussed the opportunity to set up strategic partnerships with local operators and national research centers as part of bilateral regulations.

Earlier this month, Longi revealed that his own hybrid-based contact (HIBC) Crystalline Silicon solar cell, based on a full-size silicon wafer, achieved a world record-conversion-efficiency of 27.81%.

In January, Algeria re -issued a tender for three solar projects of a total of 520 MW in capacity. According to the latest figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), the country had a cumulative solar capacity of 462 MW at the end of 2024, unchanged compared to the previous year.
