Chilean Minister of Energy Diego Pardow was present at the inauguration of the 200 MW/800 MWH Bess del Desierto, a project that describes its developers as the first large-scale independent energy storage plant in Latin America.
The project has Powertitan liquid cooling and operating systems of the Chinese battery manufacturer Sungrow. Developer Atlas Renewable Energy says that his project can offer nearly 2500 electric buses with a 500,000 km reach.
Atlas estimates that the 320 batteries on the more than three-hectare site will supply more than 280 GWh per year of clean electricity to the grid, which reduces the volume of renewable energy in the north of Chile due to a lack of schedule capacity.
