Corning, a material science innovator specializing in glass, ceramics and optics, announced that it increases the capacity of solar waffles that is produced in Hemlock in Michigan in his semiconductor plant.

Hemlock Semiconductor, currently one of the few American producers of polysilicon in the solar panons, is owned by Corning in the US and the Japanese Shin-Eetsu Handotai. The factory is in SaginaW County, Michigan.

“Corning has a long, proud history in Michigan, and we are delighted to expand our footprint here by increasing our investment and creating more advanced production channels that pay considerably above regional media,” “ said Wendell P. Weeks, chairman and chief executive officer.

In January Corning announced the construction A new Hemlock Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility, and this announcement is a further expansion of that facility, said Ab Ghosh, vice -president and CEO of Corning of Hemlock Semiconductor, told PV Magazine USA. Although Corning usually does not announce the capacity of his factories, Ghosh said that the new advanced production facility will be the largest of its kind in the United States.

“We will commercialize our Made-in-American waffles in the second half of this year,” said Ghosh. “The market response is strong and we have promised customers for 100% of the available 2025 capacity and 80% for the next five years.”

Corning reported that the new production facility is expected to create around 400 new, well -paid jobs, so that the total will be brought to 1500.

Corning recently joined Suniva and Heliene in announcing what is said to be the First produced in your own country Polysilicon solar module. Corning will produce the wafer in the Hemlock plant, Suniva will produce the cells in Georgia and helie will produce the modules in Minnesota.

“Together our companies offer the only solar cell in the market that American developers offer maximum ITC -Binnenland contents benefit -while building a domestic supply chain that provides American energy independence and a strong production basis,” said Matt Card, president of Suniva.

Corning announced that the results of the first quarter of 2025 exceeded the guidelines with the turnover that grew 13% years after year and the profit per share (EPS) increased three times faster. The company said in a release that it expects the constant strong growth of the year on the second year in Q2, with the core sales of around $ 3.85 billion, and Core EPS “again considerably faster than the turnover to a range of $ 0.55 to $ 0.59.”

“We are well positioned to maintain the momentum despite a dynamic external environment because our growth is supported by powerful secular trends that are going on today,” said Weeks. “For example, we see a remarkable response from the customer to both innovations [Generative] AI data centers and our sun products made by the US, and we accelerate our production slopes for both. “
