Array Technologies has released Duratrack Hail XP, a solar tracker made on the ground that is designed to withstand extreme hail and wind events. The tracker tilts solar panels up to 77 degrees to prevent direct hail impact.

Hail XP has a reinforced bearing housing, larger gearbox and improved damper. It uses AC -power instead of batteries to guarantee the readiness during hail events.

Array Technologies said it developed the product with input from customers, insurers and industrial partners. The Hagel-Hard design focuses on the rising insurer requirements for proactive weather restriction in solar projects.

Without mitigation, the solar industry on the utility industry of North America $ 14 billion remains a “sitting duck” with “little to no protection,” said Risk-Mitigation Specialist VDE.

Vde said that hail claims only make up 2% of the incidents submitted, but More than 50% of the total costs. Insurance claims for hails damage on utility company on average $ 58 million per claim.

The tracker integrates with software such as Array’s Smartrack Hail Alert Response and patented passive wind sump systems. The company said that Hail XP will be available for first shipments at the beginning of 2026.

“Hail XP is a breakthrough in the resilience of the tracker,” said Aaron Gabelnick, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer at Array Technologies. “It represents an important jump forward in protecting solar assets by combining innovative engineering with the robust reliability that our products are known for, and our customers expect from Array.”
