BLABY District Council has granted the building permit for Innova to build a 908 MW Energy Storage System (ESS) in Enderby, Leicestershire.

Developer of renewable energy sources Innova placed the Bosweg ESS for approval in September 2024. The facility in the field of Nuts scale will connect to the National Rastersubstation near Enderby via an underground cable.

The site comprises 10.4 hectares of low quality (grade 3) agricultural land and includes container storage units and associated infrastructure. According to planning documents, it will yield a net profit of 38% biodiversity and be operational for 50 years.

Innova has not given a projected date for completing the site or the start of the activities, but the planning approval sets a battery safety management plan (BSMP), including a risk reduction strategy and emergency aid plan must be submitted and approved by the district planning authority.

Planning documents also state that above -ground development cannot start until details of the materials (including colors) that are used for development, have been submitted by the Authority Planning Planning and have been classified in writing.

Innova is committed to setting up a community Benefit Fund that will deliver £ 45,400 annually, and a £ 18,160 charity fund. Both figures represent an annual contribution of £ 50 to the local community and £ 20 charity donation per installed MWP.

The British government is currently holding a consultation on whether it will make a legal obligation of a community benefit.

Earlier this year, Innova scored permission from the planning for his Almhome Energy Hub Project, a 49.9 MW Zonne -PV installation with a 1,025 GW/2.05GWH Battery Energy Storage System (Bess) of Battery, of which Innova states that it is the second largest Bess project to get permission.

A total of 894 Bess containers are installed on the site, in addition to a large number of solar panels with bifacial photovoltaic cells.
