This agreement includes both savings on energy costs and the purchase of credits for renewable energy consumption produced by three Summit Ridge ownership and operated commercial solar projects in Illinois. It is expected that these projects will be ratified at the end of 2025 to the beginning of 2026 and interconnected with Commonwealth Edison.
With this partnership, data centers in Northern Illinois can compensate for part of their energy consumption. In addition, the newly built solar projects will help improve the resilience of the network in Illinois, while the economic development is supported by hundreds of construction and production paths.
“At Digital Realty we are committed to promoting solutions for sustainable energy that match our worldwide goals for carbon reduction,” said Aaron Binkley, VP of Sustainability at Digital Realty. “Working with Summit Ridge Energy supports our efforts to integrate more renewable energy into our activities, while also contributes to a more resilient Power Grid in Illinois.”
These projects are part of a larger initiative of Summit Ridge to support improved grid stability through benefits such as voltage support and frequency regulation, which further strengthens the local electrical system. The three distributed solar farms that feed digitally Realty are part of Summit Ridge’s 439-MW Illinois Fleet or Solar Asset.
“The dedication of Digital Realty to buy solar energy emphasizes the growing importance of utilizing alternative energy solutions in industries that depend on reliable strength. With this agreement we build a diversified, stronger schedule while we deliver tangible benefits to companies,” said Marc Fioravanti, Senior VIGE. “This partnership illustrates that Solar plays an important role in the dramatic growth of the energy needs of technology companies, including those driven by AI and increased data processing.”
