A factory in the solar module in France that produces lightweight solar panels for flat roofs is now fully operational, said the European climate, infrastructure and environmental executive agency.

The French Startup Heliup developed the 100 MW production facility in Le Cheylas, Southeast Frankrijk, under its solar -Heliup energy for flat roof project.

The project uses ultra-thin glass technology in its Stykon PV panel, designed for large commercial, industrial and logistics buildings with a low tax-bearing capacity.

The panels are glued directly to watertight membranes, which reduce weight by 60% without endangering performance or reliability, according to a statement on the website of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Agency.

Heliup was raised in October 2023 € 10 million ($ 11.3 million) to finance the construction of the factory. Also supported by a subsidy of € 3.22 million from the European Commission’s innovation fund, the following steps of the program will focus on commercial development to fully utilize the capacity of 100 MW.

Heliup is also planning to launch a second phase that goes beyond the investments in the Innovation Fund, by scaling their first size by five to 10 times from 2026.

“The project deals with the non -realized needs of buildings that are traditionally not suitable for solar installations due to structural limitations,” said Yannick Veschetti, CEO of Heliup. “Supporting the Innovation Fund was crucial for scaling this solution, which means that our ability to substantially contribute to Europe’s carbon arbonization objectives to Europe’s carbon arbonization objectives.”
