Local news stores Report that Meyer Burger has dismissed the entire staff in the assembly facility of the solar panel in Goodyear, Arizona. Work adjustment and retraining notifications (WARN) Notices in the state have the number of affected employees within the reach of 70 to 355.

The Goodyear site

Meyer Burger, based in Switzerland, opened the Arizona Solar Panel Factory in June 2024. The way to open the site was a long-the company first announced its plans for a 1.5-GW facility in 2021 and intended to start with activities in 2022.

Meyer Burger started in the solar industry as a developer of the production equipment for designing heterojunction Technology (HJT) solar panel. The “Smartwire” designs had a permit by other production names, including REC. In 2020, the company ventured into direct production and sale of sunbells and panel, with the first production facilities in Germany being opened the first opening of the American market.

As the market for solar production in Europe decreased, Meyer Burger put more of his focus on the United States. In 2023, the company rented a former Intel Lab in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where it was planning to start the production of solar cells to deliver its assembly factory in Arizona. Plans were deleted for the American cell factory last year, after Meyer Burger found it “no longer financially viable”.

The company also closed its German solar panel -assembly facility last year, but the German Cell -Factory would still be in production this month, together with the Arizona module facility.

Meyer Burger was the only manufacturer of HJT Solar Panel in the United States. The combination of crystalline silicon and amorf silicon thin film is a unique production process that is a few steps more complicated than the industry stand of Perc and Topcon Silicon Development. This differentiator was supposed to give Meyer Burger a head start on the N-type/Topcon patent Battles that move through the industry.

Solar Power World Reached to Meyer Burger for comment on the facility of Arizona, but still has to receive an answer.
