The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has officially approved two new American national standards developed by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) about consumer protection and activities and maintenance for projects for solar and storage.

ANSI/SEIA 401-2025, the Solar and Energy Storage Consumer Protection American National Standard, outlines training requirements, to determine ethical sales and contract practices and to ensure that all solar customers have a thorough insight into their contract conditions and process before they commit themselves. Companies and sellers who are trained under this standard will offer customers an extensive and clear disclosure of costs, important contract conditions and technology information.
ANSI/SEIA 301-2025, the Solar and Energy Storage Operations and Maintenance Technician Training American National Standard, informs technical professionals about maintaining solar and storage systems to maximize performance, lifetime and safety. It also offers specifications for planned maintenance, system monitoring, safety controls and archiving, which guarantees more reliable systems that improve the resilience of the electric schedule.
To support the implementation of these standards in the entire industry, SEIA is launching a new online platform where companies, consumers and other stakeholders have access to the full series of SEIA standards and upcoming implementation sources. The implementation sources will help companies integrate these standards into their business practices.

SEIA will launch its new professional and business certification programs in November 2025, which will provide a way for the industrial recognition of compliance with the ANSI/SEIA standards. For individuals, the certification requires that an exam must take to demonstrate insight into the standard. In addition to these two approved standards, SEIA develops nine more industrial standards that cover a series of problems, including traceability of the supply chain and dismantling the project.
