The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy and the Environment has approved additional financing for its purchasing program for energy storage after a strong interest in potential beneficiaries. In the meantime, Trina Storage has protected the first 180 MWh of battery projects in the country under the new Gigawatt-Hous scale Battery Energy Storage System (Bess) portfolio in the Baltic States.

Only one day before you were disconnected from the Russian Power Grid on 8 February, Lithuania launched a major Initiative for purchasing energy storage aimed at strengthening grid stability and accelerating the energy transition.

The Ministry of Energy has assigned € 102 million ($ 119 million) to support the development of at least 800 MWh of energy storage systems directly connected to the transmission network by the end of 2028.

In mid -June, the ministry announced the end of applications for the tender, which is managed by the Environmental Project Management Agency (EPMA). The program attracted overwhelming interest, with applications of a total of € 197.5 million – almost double the available budget. In response, the Ministry committed itself to increasing financing.
