A design-building project conducted by students, which combines hands-on architectural education with sustainability, is completed by the University of Kansas School of Architecture. The project marks the 18th consecutive Leed-Platina-certified house completed through the Studio 804 program of the university and is the second supported by product donations of S-5!

Studio 804 is a unique, hands-on design building program within the Master of Architecture curriculum of the University of Kansas. Founded by Dan Rockhill, in their last year, graduated students offers a compelling experience, which challenges them to design a fully realized building within nine months and to construct a fully realized building and provides a practical basis for sustainable architectural practice.

The 1040 New York Street House has a primary home of 2,000 square meters next to a house of 1,000 m², houses a garage and extra living space. The outside is covered in white composite metal and supplemented with a 22-Gauge matt black-standing seam metal roof. The house is located on a rather empty infill plot in East Lawrence, a historic neighborhood near the “KAW” river and the center of Lawrence in Kansas.

To obtain suffering Platinum certification, the project has included a PV system on solar energy. S-5! Donate his PVKIT® Directattach Solar Montaining System, making it a penetration-free installation of an 8.8-KW solar panel using Navitas 550 W Bifacial 144 Half-cut Mono modules. It is expected that the Zonne -Array will compensate most, if not all, the energy consumption of the house.

Moreover, S-5! Contributed to his Colorgard Snow Retention System, designed to match the aesthetics of the roof and ensures snow management through the hard winter months, which protected both the roof and in the residents.

“We are honored to support a program such as Studio 804 that combines a high-level design, hands-on learning and real-world sustainability,” said Rob Haddock, S-5! CEO and founder. “These students learn to build smarter and better – and that starts with quality materials and streamlined installation practices.”
