Government Joe Lombardo asks Dept. or interior to Unfreeze Solar Development in Nevada

A solar project in Nevada by McCarthy.

On August 4 Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo sent a letter to sec. from interior Doug Burgum who asks for guidance on changes in the development of solar energy in federal countries, according to E&E News. The Governor said that the interior memo department announced that the secretary himself would revise from solar and wind rental contracts, transit rights, construction and operation plans, subsidies, consultations and biological opinions about public countries, frozen solar projects already deep in the development frame.

“The memo has not only stopped developing solar energy on federal countries in Nevada, but also on private land where federal approvals such as the rights of the transmission line are required,” Lombardo wrote.

He noted that the memo in particular influenced three development projects to serve NVAD’s largest NV energy: Boulder Solar III by 174 Power Global, Dry Lake East by Nextera and Libra by SB Energy.

“Without clarifying the guidelines and processes, I am concerned that the memo will prevent or unnecessarily delay the development of energy in the state that is ready to meet the growing energy needs of the mining industry and data centers,” Lombardo wrote.
