ACTIV8 Energies, 50% owned by SSE Airtricity, has taken over all the shares of the British Low Carbon Energy (LCE) to strengthen its commercial and industrial (C&I) Zonneportfolio in the United Kingdom.

Irish Solar Company Activ8 Energies has acquired the British Low Carbon Energy in the UK to expand the C&I-Zonne market of the United Kingdom.

LCE, founded in 2009, has installed more than 60 MW of solar energy in more than 300 locations. It claims to serve customers, including BMW, Porsche, Co-op, Boeing, Drax Power, Tata Steel, Wickes, United Utilities and the UK National Health Service (NHS).

The acquisition transmits 100% of LCE shares to ACTIV8. Benedict Ennis remains director and founder Gednis continues as a non-executive director. LCE will work under its existing brand in the short term, according to an online statement.

ACTIV8, which is 50% owned by SSE Airtricity, a subsidiary of the Scottish energy producer SSE, recently completed a GBP 3 million ($ 4.06 million) solar farm on John Lennon Airport in Liverpool. It delivers approximately a quarter of the airport electricity. The company said it is planning to double the turnover and to install capacity in the coming years.

The deal follows the growing acceptance of energy purchase agreements in the United Kingdom, with which commercial and industrial customers can install solar energy without prior costs, to support low -carbon and energy security goals.

ACTIV8 CEO Ciarán Marron said that the acquisition would accelerate the expansion of the company on the British commercial solar market.
