Turn energyA National Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer, and the University of Colorado Boulder, broke officially on a 5-MWDC Virtual Net Measurement Solar Project in Weld County, Colorado last week.

Brian Lindoerfer, Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management, CU Boulder; Cara Carmichael, Associate Vice Chancellor for Sustainability, CU Boulder; Chris Ewing, Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Resilience, CU Boulder; Matt Brenn, director, community -zonne subscriptions, Pivot Energy; Mat Elmore, Senior Vice President, Strategic Accounts, Pivot Energy; Isaiah Grayck, project manager, Pivot Energy

The milestone marks the next phase in a partnership that was first announced in July 2024, and supports the wider goals of the university, while the climate action plan is promoted. Pivot Energy will develop, possess and exploit the off-site project, which is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2026.

According to a 20-year subscription agreement, CU-Boulder will benefit from a virtual network program founded by Colorado Senate Bill 21-261 in 2021, with which the university can subscribe to energy produced and receives credits to its electricity accounts, together with 100% of the renewable energetic credits of the project. The solar array will also compensate for the electricity consumption of CU-Boulder and promote its scope 2 greenhouse gas (BKG) emission goals (50% by 2030) and reach carbon neutrality by 2050. The initiative is cost neutral.

“This collaboration with Pivot Energy is a powerful example of how CU-Boulder is targeted,” said Cu-Boulder Chancellor Justin Schwartz. “We are not just talking about sustainability – we build it up in the structure of our activities in ways that are both financially responsible and environmentally friendly.”

Once completed, the project is expected to produce around 9.5 million kWh of solar energy annually. End-to-end, the approximately 8,000 solar panels of the project are sufficient to fill four football fields. In addition, Agrivoltaïss will be integrated into this project. A herd of around 100 sheep will offer “Lamb -Scaping” services on site to manage the vegetation every year from April to October. A local rancher will offer extra Graasland on the project site.

“Pivot Energy is proud to work with the University of Colorado Boulder on this project and is enthusiastic to start construction,” said Mat Elmore, Senior VP of strategic accounts at Pivot Energy. “This is a win-win for both the largest university and the Pivot of Colorado-Om CU-Boulder to help achieve its objectives for renewable energy consumption and pivot point to accelerate the shift to solar energy throughout the country.”
