The new market for energy storage from China reached earlier this week in the first half of 2025, according to a report from CNESA on the Western Energy Storage Forum in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia.

CNESA said that the total energy storage capacity in China end-Juni at 164.3 GW was an increase of 59% year after year, while cumulative storage of new energy-similar lithium-ion battery energy systems-first surpassed 100 GW and reached 10% increase in the previous year)

The report documents a structural transformation in the China storage mix. Pomphydro, which was good for 89.3% of the capacity at the end of the previous five -year period, has fallen to 37.4% of the fleet; Lithium-ion now represents 59.9%. CNESA characterizes the change as a fundamental technology route shift while the industry goes from a single track to a landscape with several patients.
