The National Grid distribution arm, which possesses and operates the transmission network of Groot -Britain, has announced on LinkedIn that National Grid Electricity Distribution (Ned) has announced that it has now connected 14 GW of distributed energy sources (Ders) with its network.
The service area includes the East and Western Midlands, Zuid -Wales and the Southwest.
Of the connected Ders, 10GW renewable energy sources, including onshore wind, large-scale solar PV, solar energy and energy storage on the roof. The figures do not include any assets behind the meter.
According to the operator, this is the first time that the more generation is connected to the network than is consumed by all its customers (around 8 million) at peak times. It said: “That is a powerful indicator of how far we got to make clean, decentralized energy for houses and companies locally possible.
“The generators also immediately reduce system losses and relax the pressure of our transmission network, which demonstrates a big step towards a smarter, more resilient energy future.”
According to figures from Solar Media Market Research, in the VK-wide renewable assets connected to the distribution network a total of approximately 17 GW solar energy (including PV on the roof) and 9GW winds. The wind figure at distribution level is lower because the majority of the VK’s wind capacity (operational 23 GW) is connected by the transmission.
Solar Media Market Research analyst Josh Cornes wrote in one Recent article for Solar -Energy Portal That about both distribution and transmission, more than 2GWP -Zonne -Zon came online in the first half of this year.
Ground Mount remains more than 70% of the capacity of goods, with more than 1.5 GWP completed, but 2025 is a Record-break year for installations on the roof Also: The MCS Foundation said that the first six months of 2025 saw a total of 120,000 certified solar panel installations, an increase of 37% compared to the same period last year.
