Chinese PV Industry Brief: January-October Solar Additions Reach 252.87 GW

China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) says developers installed 252.87 GW of new PV capacity from January to October 2024, including 12.6 GW in October alone.

Chinas National Energy Administration (NEA) has released electricity sector data for the first ten months of 2025. The country’s total installed electricity generation capacity stood at 3.75 TW, an increase of 17.3% year-on-year. Solar energy capacity increased to 1.14 TW, an increase of 43.8%, while wind energy capacity grew by 21.4% to 590 GW. From January to October, China added 252.87 GW of new solar capacity (up 39%) and 70.01 GW of new wind installations (up 53%). In October alone, the increase in solar energy amounted to 12.60 GW, an increase of 30.4% compared to September.

Manufacturer of inverters Sineng announced that it has received approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to issue new shares to a select group of investors, raising up to CNY1.65 billion ($227 million). The company will spend CNY890 million on a new 25 GW string inverter facility, CNY610 million on a 15 GW energy storage conversion line and approximately CNY150 million in working capital. The issuance will be made to no more than 35 specific investors, including controlling shareholder Wu Qiang. Upon completion, the combined ownership of the controlling group is expected to be 22.69%, with no change in control expected.

China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) has announced the results of its 2025 centralized tender for solar panels. Twenty-three companies won bids for the 17 GW tender, covering TOPCon, BC and HJT technologies. Major winners included JA Solar, JinkoSolar, Astronergy, Tongwei, Trina Solar, LONGi and GCL System Integration.

The Silicon Industry Department of the China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Association (CNMIA) has released the latest weekly prices for polysilicon and silicon wafers. The price of polysilicon remained stable compared to last week, while wafer product prices fell significantly since last week, with n-type G10L wafers dropping an average of CNY1.17 ($0.161) per unit (pc), down 6.4%. G12R wafer prices decreased by 4% with a value of CNY 1.2, and G12 wafer prices averaged CNY 1.5, down 5.1% compared to the previous week.
