The French mounting system provider offers an 8 kg PV roof system made from recycled plastic. The system is said to simplify installation and reduce tension, with integrated cable guides and clip-on connectors supporting panels up to 1,180mm.

French mounting system supplier Snapsun, part of recycled plastic supplier Cifra, has presented a new rooftop PV mounting system made exclusively from recycled plastic materials.

“The SnapSun product stands out for several innovative features,” said the company’s R&D manager, Paul Blanchard pv magazine. “Firstly, it is made from recycled plastic, making it environmentally friendly. Secondly, it has a dead weight of 8 kg, eliminating the need for ballasts in the center of the installation, where only the corners and edges need them. This not only saves time, but also reduces the physical strain when handling heavy components.”

Snapsun also integrates cable guides, so no additional accessories are required for cable routing. Ballasts and panel connectors snap directly onto the product, unlike other systems that require separate hooks or components. “Essentially, SnapSun combines three functions into a single unit, while competing systems use multiple components,” Blanchard said. “Installation is quick and easy and saves up to 50% of the time compared to metal rail systems with twice as many parts.”

According to the manufacturer, the system is compatible with most conventional photovoltaic panels. The adjustable mounting bracket enclosures accommodate panels up to 1,180mm wide and can be installed in either landscape or portrait orientation, with two feet attached if required for larger panels.

The system allows a panel slope of 12.5° and can be installed on roofs with a slope of up to 5°, according to Snapsun.

“The installation is so simple that even beginners can complete it in about five minutes per panel with minimal training,” Blanchard explains. “Wiring requires electrical skills, but installation requires no special expertise.

Snapsun is produced by Cifra at its Château-Thierry site, in the Hauts-de-France region.
