Southeastern Conservative Sustainable Energy Advocacy Organization Energy right has found that Virginia voters largely support solar energy development in the state. Energy Right last month conducted a survey of 861 likely voters on the topic of energy affordability and solutions to stabilize those prices, including solar energy.

In nearly every survey category, 50% or more of respondents said they would support solar energy development, especially if it would benefit local agriculture, economy, infrastructure and energy prices, and if it used American-made components.

“The results are clear: working with communities on responsible energy projects has never been more important,” said Blake Cox, COO of Energy Right. “If Virginia is to meet the historic energy demands we face, we must invest in energy generation here in the Commonwealth. Virginians want an all of the above approach to energy to ensure our affordability and safety are prioritized here at home.”

Survey participants were asked about the development of solar energy in relation to its potential for generating tax revenue, how it can be implemented on agricultural land and its ability to curb the cost of electricity. Ninety-three percent of participants claimed they are concerned about energy affordability, and 83% hope the United States will make energy security a priority.

“Clean energy development continues to be a driving force behind economic growth in Virginia, and this research confirms that it works best when it works for local communities,” said Skyler Zunk, CEO of Energy Right. “Voters are more likely to support projects that keep land in production, generate new income for farmers and generate funding for schools and first responders – that’s a win for property rights, rural economies and families in Virginia.”
