Asset manager Capital Dynamics has acquired a planned 63 MW solar PV project from German renewable energy developer Baywa re.
The Fleet solar project, in north Hampshire, is expected to start construction in 2027, the company said, and will be supported by a government-backed Contract for Difference (CfD) offtake agreement. It will likely begin commercial operations in 2028.
“The UK remains one of our core markets for investment, supported by strong fundamentals. We continue to see continued momentum for the wider energy transition at a time when more investment is needed to achieve the UK’s twin energy security and climate goals,” said Barnet Coals, senior managing director at Capital Dynamics.
This is the third British solar project that Capital Dynamics has purchased from Baywa re. In december it announced the sale of two projects in Leicestershire and North Somerset with a combined capacity of just under 90 MW.
“Fleet Solar Farm demonstrates the strength of our development capabilities and highlights the quality of the projects in our pipeline. We are delighted to have secured a CfD contract in AR7, further enhancing the long-term value of the project,” said Sarah Drummond, Director of Commercial, Risk and Project Delivery at Baywa re UK & Ireland.
The developer said sheep grass and wildflower meadows will be included on the site near Fleet.
Baywa re is currently developing one 140MW solar plus storage project in south Derbyshire, which was given the green light by Energy Secretary Ed Miliband last June. The project has been designated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP).
