Costco Wholesale The energy solutions company’s distribution center in Port St. Lucie, Florida has been completely disconnected from the Sunshine State’s power grid since July 28, according to officials with the energy solutions company. Trinity energy.

The new project is the latest in a series of collaborations between Costco and Trinity Energy, representatives say, as the superstore’s distribution centers in Mira Loma and Ontario, California saw the commissioning of solar and storage in late 2025. The Port St. Lucie project will include solar and storage for all construction equipment, lighting, refrigeration and electric vehicle charging in an effort to “break the status quo” of commercial solar.

“As our operations continue to grow, it is important that we expand responsibly and act as a good partner to the communities we serve,” said Shay Reed, AGMM and certified energy manager at Costco Wholesale. “By investing in this integrated on-site energy system, we are strengthening the reliability of our Port St. Lucie facility while avoiding additional strain on the electric grid. This approach supports our continued growth, reduces pressure on the broader electric grid during peak demand and helps preserve energy resources for the surrounding community.”

The energy independence solution combines Costco’s solar, battery and fleet charging businesses into one integrated platform, Trinity Energy said. That platform is capable of generating sufficient energy to guarantee energy reliability 24 hours a day for all critical applications, including data centers.

Data collected through the Costco platform will allow Trinity to monitor company-wide energy consumption patterns, the company says. The company claims that this analytical approach will deliver even more energy savings than were already present.

Writing the book on energy independence

Trinity Energy’s integrated system will enable large facilities to break away from dependence on grid-supplied energy and generate and manage their own energy. Specifically, the companies say the Costco system provides a replicable model for large entities to take control of their energy use.

“The project will lead to greater commitment and support from communities across the country to increase grid capacity through meaningful behind-the-meter clean energy development efforts like this one,” said Ime Ntekpere, energy buyer at Costco Wholesale.

The company says the Costco distribution centers have been a perfect testing ground, proving that powering large facilities is not only feasible, but practical. The company aims to provide “a clear path forward” for businesses looking to control costs and reduce energy-related risks, in an era of growing concerns about bad weather and grid reliability.

“Kudos to Costo Energy for having the vision to invest in a forward-looking solution that will deliver year-round benefits,” said Gonzalo Stabile, VP of design and engineering at Trinity Energy. “For a distribution center of this size, uninterrupted power is essential to maintain inventory integrity, logistics flow and overall operational efficiency. Our independent on-site energy infrastructure allows businesses to maintain continuity during grid disruptions, better manage peak demand and stabilize energy costs in the long term.”
