British Gas has partnered with Forster Group to expand its solar reach into Scotland, helping the company meet growing customer demand for solar panel and battery storage technology.

Susan Wells, director of low carbon homes at British Gas, said: “We are committed to providing the right products and solutions to help people reduce carbon emissions in their homes and save money on their bills in a way that works for them through British Gas and Hive. .”

Forster Group is one of the largest solar panel installers in Scotland. It provides solar energy services to one in five new homes in the country. The partnership will also increase the number of accredited engineers British Gas works with by 55%.

“Forster’s impressive track record in Scotland means we can meet the growing demand for solar energy and provide customers with expert advice and installations,” Wells added.

Last year, British Gas launched its solar offering in England and Wales with Effective Home. Now the effort is taking place nationwide and will enable the company to install solar and battery technology for eligible customers in Scotland, England and Wales for the first time.

Customers currently receive free advice about the installation of solar panels ‘tailored to their energy consumption and home layout’, with an estimate of the costs, savings and installation options provided without obligation.

The partnership with Forster Group was established just a month later British Gas was awarded a £200 million contract of the Welsh Government’s Warm Homes programme.

Last year, data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) showed that more than 183,000 solar installations had been carried out in the UK. Research in the British Gas Homes Index shows that 42% of people say they are considering installing solar panels in the next two years.

John Forster, chairman and founder of Forster Group, said: “We see solar and battery technology playing a vital role in the country’s transition to Net Zero and with consumer appetite growing, more people now have the opportunity to to take control of their own energy. energy consumption and achieve huge savings by generating their own electricity.

“We are delighted to join forces with British Gas and share their vision for a more sustainable energy future.”

Solar Power Portal’s publisher Solar Media will host the UK Solar Summit on June 4-5, 2024 in London. The event will explore Britain’s new utility and rooftop solar landscape, look at the opportunities within a GW+ annual market, and much more. For more information, visit the website.
