Engie and UAC Berhad sign 20-year PPA for solar energy in Malaysia – SPE

Engie and UAC Berhad have signed a 20-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 7.35 MW solar array in Malaysia.

Engie and UAC Berhad, a Malaysian manufacturer of environmentally friendly cellulose fiber cement products, have signed a 20-year PPA. They will develop a 7.35 MW rooftop solar array at UAC Berhad’s factory in Ipoh, northwest Malaysia.

The array is expected to supply 27% of the UAC facility’s energy needs. The two parties have been working together since 2018 to reduce CO2 emissions at UAC Berhad’s manufacturing plant, located on the Tasek Industrial Estate. They previously upgraded the facility’s compressed air system, leading to an 18% increase in the system’s energy efficiency by mid-2018. 2019. In 2023, they signed a ten-year energy efficiency performance agreement to upgrade the facility’s steam boiler system to renew and optimize UAC Berhad.

Thomas Baudlot, CEO of Engie Southeast Asia, said that by integrating the delivery of multiple services through its utilities-as-a-service approach, the company is enabling UAC Berhad to decarbonize its local utilities while simultaneously increasing their improve operational efficiency.

“Since our first collaboration with Engie in 2018, we have witnessed tangible improvements in our energy efficiency and operational reliability, and this new project not only strengthens our commitment to sustainability, but also underlines our commitment to driving business excellence,” said Loon, deputy CEO of UAC Berhad. Peng Wai.

Over the past month, Engie subsidiaries announced the deployment of Latin America’s largest storage battery to date, as well as the group’s first solar mini-grid in Benin, as part of a wider rollout across the country.
