The Government of Guyana has opened a tender for the supply and supply of solar equipment and solar installations for 21 public and community buildings.

The tender includes eight lots: multimodal inverters, PV modules, valve regulated lead-acid batteries (VRLA), lithium battery storage systems, roof mounting hardware for solar panels, system balancing equipment, electrical lines, fittings and electrical equipment.

The technical specifications of each lot are fully available in the tender document. Bidders can bid on individual lots or on combinations of lots. All bidders must submit their bids by post by June 18. The required delivery period is 90 days from the signing of a contract.

The tender document states that the project aims to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and reduce the utility’s electricity consumption, in pursuit of lower CO2 emissions.

According to the tender document, electricity from the PV arrays will be used for internal consumption and battery charging. The project will also “demonstrate the applicability of the operation of photovoltaic systems with energy storage and its energy contribution to Guyana.”

Guyana had 8 MW of installed solar capacity at the end of 2023, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
