NHOA Energy will supply Statkraft with a battery energy storage system (BESS) for a 113MWh project in Coylton, Scotland.

The system, formalized with the signing of a supply and long-term service agreement, marks NHOA Energy’s third foray into battery storage in the region. The company had already done that supplied systems for two projects currently under construction in Great Britain for a total capacity of 130MWh.

The commercial operation date of the two energy storage projects is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.

Coylton Greener Grid Park will deliver advanced features such as rasterization to provide synthetic inertia and possibly other system stability servicesand improved power quality facilities, which help stabilize the area’s electrical grid.

Connected grid-forming inverters provide stability so that they always remain in ‘grid-forming’ mode, meaning they are inherently resistant to changes in voltage and frequency on the electricity grid.

Commenting on the agreement, Lucie Kanius-Dujardin, executive vice president of global markets for NHOA Energy, said BESS “will propel us [NHOA Energy] at the forefront of the energy transition, leveraging the UK’s dynamic market and Statkraft’s expertise.”

Lucy Kent, Statkraft’s lead project manager, Greener Grid Parks, added that the Coylton Greener Grid Park “will support the increased deployment of renewable energy into the electricity grid and is another investment by Statkraft in Britain’s sustainable energy infrastructure” .
