Enersol, the residential unit of German battery maker Sonnen, says it will cease operations at the end of October due to unprofitability, despite strong growth over the past three years.

Residential PV installer Enersol, part of Germany-based battery manufacturer Sonnen, will cease operations on October 31, a company spokesperson said pv magazine.

Enersol is based in Sachsenheim, Baden-Württemberg, and currently has approximately 120 employees. Sonnen acquired Enersol in 2019. It grew strongly during the boom period between 2022 and 2023, when demand for residential PV systems in Germany rose sharply. However, the market has now slowed down.

“The collapse in demand meant that the structures Enersol had built no longer allowed for profitable operations,” Sonnen’s spokesperson said.

However, he also noted that demand for residential rooftop PV systems is far from saturated and Sonnen expects the market to grow again in the future.

“Investments in photovoltaic systems are currently particularly worthwhile,” the spokesperson said. “Prices for photovoltaic components have fallen significantly in recent times and there are no problems with deliveries or installation capacities. While last year end customers sometimes had to wait up to a year for the installation of their systems, it is now possible to complete the system within a few weeks.”

The spokesperson said that Sonnen will continue to provide service and maintenance to already installed systems.

“Photovoltaic systems already ordered will also be installed by Enersol until the end of October, provided that customers do not cancel their contracts,” he added.
