Norwegian vertical PV system supplier Over Easy Solar has installed a 248.4 kW installation in the Norwegian national football stadium. The system has more than 1,200 vertical photovoltaic panels, developed by Over Easy Solar itself.

The world’s largest vertical two-sided rooftop solar installation to date has been installed at the Norwegian National Football Stadium.

The 284.4 kW system consists of 1,242 vertical photovoltaic units of 200 Wp each, supplied by Over Easy Solar, a Norway-based specialist in vertical solar energy systems. Over Easy Solar’s vertical XM-2 Quattro-200S panels feature silicon heterojunction cells and a module architecture that is said to offer 95.7% bifaciality. The panels are also claimed to be lightweight, with a weight gain of less than 11kg/m2.

The array was mounted on the bitumen roof of the Ullevaal Stadium in May by Norway’s Solenergi FUSen, and installation was completed within days. It covers an area of over 2,500 m2 and is expected to generate 219,000 kWh of energy annually.

In this installation, the solar panels are oriented 20 degrees east-south, which ensures energy distribution with a higher energy yield in the winter months. About Easy Solar says an analysis of its pilot projects has shown that vertical solar panels can achieve more than 20% to 30% higher specific efficiency than traditional flat roof solutions. The vertical panels also provide better performance in winter due to less snow cover.

Last year, pv magazine reported on two roof installations in Norway supplied by Over Easy Solar, a 102 kW bifacial commercial roof system and a 45 kW school roof system.
