In Italy’s first agricultural voltaic electricity tender, bids were submitted for 1.7 GW

Italy’s Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (MASE) says it has received 643 bids for a total of 1.7 GW in its first agrivoltaic tender. About 56% of proposals come from the sunny southern regions of the country.

Italian MASE has announced the results of its first agrivoltaic tender. The ministry received subsidy applications for 643 projects, totaling 1.7 GW.

Subsidizing these projects would require a total investment of approximately €920 million ($1.01 billion). MASE said most proposals came from Italy’s sunny southern regions.

The auction is open to projects of any size from agricultural entrepreneurs or groups in which at least one agricultural entrepreneur is involved.

Only agrivoltaic projects with vertical mounting structures or high-efficiency PV modules can participate. Selected developers receive rebates of up to 40% of installation costs and feed-in tariffs for energy supplied to the grid.

The final tender results will be published at a later date. The exercise, which is part of Italy National recovery and resilience plan (PNRR), has a budget of €1.1 billion ($1.2 billion) to deploy approximately 1.04 GW of PV capacity by June 2026.
