Investment manager Downing has acquired a 42.5 MW turnkey (RTB) solar power plant in Cornwall that is expected to be completed and connected to the grid in the fourth quarter of 2027.The Higher Witheven solar power station has a Gate 2 Phase 1 grid connection offer (enabling a connection date of 2027) and will be connected to the Alverdiscott 400 kV substation. The site has a Contract for Difference (CfD) from Allocation Round 7 (AR7). Downing purchased the solar power plant in Launceston, Cornwall, from Windel & Canadian Solar. It is Downing’s fifth site purchase in the past three months. The…
SERIS researchers developed a 16 cm² perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell with a double-sided TOPCon bottom cell, which improves passivation, reduces recombination and increases the voltage and filling factor. March 3, 2026 Emiliano Bellini Researchers at the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) in Singapore have fabricated a perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell based on a bottom TOPCon device that relies on double-sided (DS) thin polysilicon (poly-Si) layers. In standard single-sided TOPCon (SS-TOPCon) solar cells, charge carrier selectivity is achieved using a heavily boron-doped surface layer on the front and a back stack made of a thin layer of silicon oxide…
In an effort to be the one residential solar provider to rule them all, Otovo has announced it will acquire EnergyAid, a major provider of residential solar repairs in California, Arizona and Nevada, for $10 million. Energy assistance EnergyAid has been the leading solar brand of late, managing abandoned solar systems after major residential installers went bankrupt. EnergyAid has acquired orphaned systems from Suntuity, Titan Solar Power, Sunworks and Solcius. The company offers service subscriptions focused on diagnostics, repair, maintenance and system upgrades. About 2,800 customers have signed up for the subscription service. “This acquisition will mark a significant milestone…
New energy stocksa wholly owned subsidiary of ALLETE, has brought online the 7 MW Moriah Community Solar project in Moriah, New York. New Energy Equity is leasing the land for the project in New York’s Adirondack region from a local resident, guaranteeing a new income stream for their family for decades to come. “Moriah Community Solar reflects our mission of building solar projects that generate reliable energy and sustainable economic value,” said Josh Kunkel, president and CEO of New Energy Equity. “The benefits don’t stop with the landowners we work with. Communities also enjoy the benefits of increased revenue for…
Massachusetts is encouraging solar energy and reducing energy efficiency on the state’s energy bills
The Massachusetts House has passed a bill that would set new state goals for renewable energy deployment and allow reforms while cutting funding for an energy efficiency program. Navisun completed two solar projects totaling 3.8 MW in Massachusetts with pollinator-friendly ground cover. Navisun “The Climate Omnibus bill includes critical solar policy provisions that will help make our grid more reliable and affordable,” said Elena Weissmann, Northeast Regional Director at Vote Solar. “We are grateful to lawmakers for advancing policies that recognize the important role solar energy plays in strengthening our energy system, including an important amendment that allows the purchase…
Researchers from the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have reported a new interface engineering strategy that significantly increases the efficiency and stability of three-dimensional perovskite solar cells. Working with international partners, the team formed a thin two-dimensional perovskite phase at the buried interface of the perovskite absorber, a location that has been difficult to selectively target with previous approaches. The work, published in Nature Energy on February 6, shows that the method improves the crystallization quality of the perovskite films and reduces defect concentrations at buried interfaces by more than 90…
Premier Energies Ltd today unveiled India’s first zero-busbar (0BB) TOPCon solar cell at Intersolar India. The 0BB design marks a structural shift from traditional 10BB and 16BB architectures, replacing thick silver rails with a dense matrix of ultra-fine silver lines to collect power. By Martin McConnell March 2, 2026 This week on Projects Weekly, the path is just about clear for the largest solar and storage project in the U.S., with Westlands Water certifying the Valley Clean Infrastructure Plan’s environmental review. Just east of the Golden State, SOLON Corporation and Onyx Renewables have completed four new projects in Mesa, Arizona, bringing their total to 3.7 MW in the Mesa community. Recurrent Energy has sold its 200 MWh BESS project to Texas-based Hunt Energy Network, and near the East Coast, MN8 Energy has inked a deal to support Meta’s American data center operations with…
First Solar has a Sec. 337 investigation request filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on a series of crystalline silicon panel competitors for alleged infringement of First Solar’s TOPCon patents. One sec. 337 of the Tariff Act infringement states that the infringement of certain patents creates unfair competition in the import trade. Canadian Solar TOPCon module First Solar filed the investigation request last week against Axitec, Canadian Solar, JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Mundra (Adani), Philadelphia Solar, Qcells, Runergy, Trina Solar (including T1 Energy) and VSUN (Toyo). First Solar, a manufacturer of cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin-film solar panels, has…
Researchers from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche in Spain have designed an air-to-water heat pump system that can shift hot water (DHW) production to central daylight hours, maximizing the use of PV power generation. The novelty of the system lies in the use of two condensers instead of a single unit. The researchers explained that a conventional compact domestic hot water heat pump includes a compressor, evaporator, expansion valve and a condenser around the bottom of the storage tank, which heats the entire volume of water by natural convection. The proposed dual condenser configuration adds a second condenser at…
