The American power grid is electrifying through renewable energy proliferation, and homeowners are following suit by replacing gas powered vehicles and appliances with electric-powered options. However, certain homes are encountering the conundrum of having too high of an electrical load and not enough electrical service to back it. Savant is a recognized leader in both smart home and smart power solutions, developing solutions for balancing electrical loads in the age of in-home solar and storage. Ian Roberts, VP of sales excellence at Savant, is on this episode of Solar Spotlight to discuss the viability of energy load management. A written…
Arevon Energy, a renewable energy developer, owner, and operator, and Meta Platforms have signed a long-term environmental attributes purchase agreement (EAPA) for Arevon’s Heirloom Solar Project in Pike County, Indiana. The 60-MWAC Heirloom Solar Project recently started construction and is targeted to be fully operational in Q3 2025. Arevon will own and operate Heirloom Solar. Local landowners will receive steady payments throughout the life of the project, diversifying their income and allowing them to continue farming in the area. “Arevon is proud to once again partner with Meta and contribute to their sustainability goal of matching its operations with 100%…
Terrace mart has developed a new hail storage feature for its single-axis solar tracker, TerraTrak. The ability to store hail increases risk mitigation functionality for PeakYield, Terrasmart’s cloud-based tracker control and monitoring software platform. Credit: Terrasmart The hail mitigation system automatically activates the storage position to protect solar energy without operator intervention, using cloud-based weather forecasts from Accuweather. The hail storage solution is available for both 1P and 2P trackers and adds to Terrasmart’s foundation-independent racking portfolio that offers both ground screw and driven piles, specifically designed to perform in adverse terrain and weather conditions. “Reducing project risk has been…
John Murphy Nexamp has partnered with Trajectory Energy Partners to acquire two Illinois solar projects, located in Galesburg and Pekin, with a total capacity of 7 MW. The projects were developed under the state’s Community Driven Community Solar program and are expected to come online next year. This sale expands the total portfolio of transactions between the companies in Illinois since 2020 to a total of 24 MW. “Community Solar continues to showcase its power and versatility as one of the most impactful tools to simultaneously address our nation’s most critical energy and equity policy…
SMA America will unveil new energy solutions and technologies for homes at RE+ 2024 in Anaheim. Visitors get a first impression of the SMA Home Storage System, offering a modular, customizable battery for homeowners. SMA will be present at stand no. 1 in the Grand Plaza outside. The ‘I LOVE THE SUN’ showcase will highlight the importance of solar energy through an extensive display of products, technology and applications, including the Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverter which offers a hybrid solution that combines both immediate energy consumption and storage in a single device makes it possible. The integration of the…
As the hydrogen project in Appalachia progresses, American Airlines reaffirms its commitment to hydrogen aircraft. Meanwhile, a Scottish distillery could soon be running on hydrogen to produce whisky. August 20, 2024 Sergio MatalucciThe US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm will join local senators and the governors of Ohio and Pennsylvania this week to cut the ribbon on the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2) Program Office. ARCH2 said in an email that the hub recently received up to $925 million federal fundingmarking an important milestone in its development and the country’s shift to clean energy.US airlines said it will add…
Scientists have simulated dozens of electron transport layer-free cell structures and identified the optimal design with a transparent Zr:In2O3 front electrode, a CuSCN hole transport layer, and a NAN transparent back electrode. They have also optimized the thickness and tire clearance. August 20, 2024 Lior KahanaResearchers from India have proposed a novel bifacial electron transport layer (ETL)-free cell structure for flexible devices. They optimized this cell using SCAPS-1D simulation software, selecting the most effective combination of the front transparent electrode (FTE), the hole transport layer (HTL) and the rear transparent electrode (RTE). The new structure has achieved an energy conversion…
Researchers at the City University of Hong Kong have developed a monolithic perovskite-organic tandem solar cell with a wide bandgap subcell that reportedly offers “remarkable” stability. The tandem device achieved one of the highest efficiencies ever reported for this type of solar cell technology. August 20, 2024 Valerie ThompsonTo overcome operational stability issues of wide bandgap metal halide perovskite cells, a team from the City University of Hong Kong designed a series of ‘multifunctional’ organic redox mediators based on anthraquinone, which were able to ‘selectively reduce iodine and oxidize metallic Pb0 , while simultaneously passively rendering defects through tailored cationic…
The proposed farm would have delivered a net biodiversity gain of 50%. Image: West Burton Solar Project. Wiltshire Council has refused planning permission for a solar farm proposal submitted by renewable energy developer Low Carbon. The proposed project, called Beech Tree Solar Farm, was proposed for development on land just outside Coombe Bissett, Wiltshire, and would have had a generation capacity of 30 MW and a lifespan of 40 years. Matt Lomax, planning manager at Low Carbon, spoke in support of the application at a meeting at Trowbridge County Hall, noting that the proposals would have delivered a 50% net…
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA()), the United States added 20.2 GW of electricity generation capacity in the first half of 2024. Solar led the way, with significant applications in energy storage as well. August 20, 2024 Brian Public By pv magazine USAAccording to the U.S. Department of Energy’s EIA, the United States will have connected 20.2 GW (AC) of utility-scale power plants to the grid in the first half of 2024. This capacity includes 12 GW of solar, which represents 59% of the total additions. . Energy storage accounted for approximately 4.2 GW of this new capacity.Florida…
