China could meet 2025 green hydrogen targets a year earlier – SPE

Rystad Energy says China appears poised to smash its national hydrogen targets and consolidate its lead in the global electrolyser market, while the European Union and Japan have agreed to cooperate on hydrogen research.

Rystad energy said China’s hydrogen electrolysis capacity could reach 2.5 GW by the end of December, reaching the 2025 green hydrogen production target a year earlier. “This capacity to be expected to produce 220,000 tons per year (tpa) green hydrogen, 6 kilotons per year (KPA) more than the rest of the world combined,” said the Norway-based energy research agency. China said it aims to achieve a green hydrogen production target of 200,000 tons per year by the end of 2025 under its national plan, which was published in 2022.

The European Union‘S Partnership for Clean Hydrogen has signed a cooperation agreement with Japan Organization for the Development of New Energy and Industrial Technology (NEDO). “The agreement signed today will strengthen the knowledge and capacity of the scientific and industrial sectors along the value chain and strengthen our research centers and centers us industries gaining momentum” said Valerie Bouillon Delporte, Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. Bio-methanol yes be produced from biological residual materials and by-products from forestry, agriculture and the maritime sector. “By adding hydrogen in the production process, all green carbon is released is usedresulting in a volumetric doubling of methanol production,” said Norwegian Hydrogen, adding that a joint company will handle hydrogen production. “The goal here is an annual production of 150,000 tons of bio-e-methanol, which will also involve the local production of 15,000 tons of green hydrogen from electrolysis,” the companies said.

Eletrobras And Prumo Logisticathe holding company developing the Brazilian port of Açu, have agreed to an evaluation the production of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives. “The agreement will assess the technical, environmental and economic-financial feasibility of setting up the plant, as well as the use of resources for research and development.” said Eletrobras.
