French manufacturer of PV modules Recom Sillia was declared bankrupt on April 12, following a decision by the commercial court of Saint-Brieuc.

The company had filed for bankruptcy in December 2023. It operated a solar panel factory in Lannion, Brittany, northern France.

According to the local press, the 32 employees, who had already received their dismissal letter, could benefit from a procedure “that allows them an accelerated move”.

Recom acquired the French PV manufacturer Sillia VL in July 2017. Sillia had taken over the solar panel factory in Lannion from the German conglomerate Bosch in 2014. The factory had a capacity of 150 MW at the time.

“In total, Europe has officially lost 3.07 GW of module production capacity since autumn due to bankruptcies or production shutdowns,” the European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) said.

The council made a list of all companies that have gone bankrupt in recent months: the Swiss Flisom (55 MW), the Austrian Energetica (250 MW), the Dutch Exasun (125 MW), the German Envelon (80 MW), Meyer Burger (1,400 MW). ) and Solarwatt (300 MW), as well as France-based Systovi (80 MW).

“It is not good to be right in our predictions when it comes to this type of news, and we at ESMC are naturally disappointed that policymakers have not acted on our warnings and our suggestions for implementing emergency measures,” it added .
