India added 2.8 GW to solar energy on the roof in the first half of 2025, an increase of 155% of 1.1 GW a year earlier, according to Mercom India’s “Q2 2025 Market Market Report.”

Of the total, 1.6 GW was installed in the second quarter, an increase of 119% compared to 731 MW in the second quarter of 2024.

Mercom said the growth was powered by ordinary registration -arrears, the commissioning of new systems and upgrades to the PM Surya Ghar Portal.

In Q2 2025, additions on the roof of solar capacity were led by the residential segment, which contributed more than 74%. This was followed by the industrial segment by more than 19%, the commercial segment by around 6%and the government segment by almost 0.5%.

Installations under the capital expenditure model have contributed 88% of the quarterly additions, while the capacity extensions under the Operational Expistitive or Renewable Energy Service Company model were good for around 12% of the installations in Q2 2025.

“The solar market on the roof is on schedule for record growth this year, with a residential adoption under the Premier Surya Ghar program that floats almost three-quarters of new installations. However, persistent DCR-Module deficits, regulatory unpredictability of unpredictability in some states, Netto measurement and payment problems. Group. Group.

Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan led the addition of the solar capacity to the roof in the quarter by contributing 64% of the total installations.
