LS Energy Solutions has started with commercial activities at the Big Rock energy storage location in Imperial County, California. The 200-MW/400-MWH project, developed and operated in collaboration with Gore Street Energy Storage Fund (GSF), now supplies Adequacy (RA) and additional services for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) Electrical Grid.

“We are delighted to see the Big Rock site in full commercial operation and to offer storage services for CAISO,” said Curt Feldman, vice -president at LS Energy Solutions. “While the Raster of California is confronted with challenges of the growth of data centers, forest fires and the need to reach carbon reduction goals, storage is more critical than ever. Gore Street Energy Storage Fund has been an excellent partner for this project and we look forward to them to work with them with them.”

The Big Rock site comprises 137 LS-Es-Es-Es-Containers that store energy for a two-hour duration. LS-E and GSF currently work the site on 100 MW Available to deliver 400 MWh to CAISO and to meet the four-hour dismissal provision of a 12-year RA contract. In addition to supplying Aion-Ess containers, LS-ES also supports the site with operational services that include preventive and capacity maintenance, an extensive distance and remote system remotely for the lifetime of the project.

GSF took over the Big Rock site in February 2023 from Clean Energy Developer Avantus, and it marks the first project of the developer for CAISO.
