The array, developed with WCP solar energywill supply the CPF facility with clean, renewable energy and contribute to the province’s long-term sustainability goals. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place yesterday to celebrate the completion of the array. Community leaders, project partners and residents attended the event.

“Great partnerships lead to great projects, and our collaboration with WCP Solar and Lake County is an example of that,” said Harry Benson, director of business development at Standard Solar. “This installation helps Lake County achieve its clean energy goals and reflects Standard Solar’s broader commitment to expanding renewable energy throughout Illinois. We are eager to build on this momentum and bring more impactful projects to Lake County and the great state of Illinois.”

When operational at the end of this year, the system is expected to generate approximately 1,452,000 kWh of clean energy annually and help reduce carbon emissions and lower the province’s energy costs. This brings Lake County one step closer to achieving its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for government operations, meeting a resolution passed by the Lake County Board in 2020.

“By utilizing solar energy, we are not only demonstrating our commitment to combating climate change by expanding renewable energy and decarbonizing our local energy sector, but we are also achieving significant cost savings for Lake County,” said Sandy Hart . , Lake County Board Chairman. “Our partnership with Standard Solar represents a meaningful step forward, both environmentally and economically.”

Illinois’ goal is to get 25% of its energy from renewables by 2025, with solar energy playing a vital role in achieving that goal.

“It is extremely gratifying to partner with Lake County and Standard Solar on the development of this exciting solar project,” said Everton Walters, president of WCP Solar. “It is extremely encouraging to help the Lake County community reduce demand for fossil fuels while being a leader in renewable energy.”
