The United States continues to set quarterly records for energy storage installations in every major market segment, according to a report from Wood Mackenzie.

By ESS news

Energy storage installations in the United States continue to grow as the share of intermittent renewable energy generation from sources such as solar and wind increases, creating a need to store and distribute electricity when it is needed most.

A quarterly report from Wood Mackenzie for the second quarter of 2024 shows that US developers have ordered 3,011 MW and 10,492 MWh of energy storage across segments. It represents the second largest capacity expansion in a quarter, trailing only the fourth quarter of 2023 in terms of total capacity, when 13,437 MWh came online.

The top markets to date accounted for the majority of activity in 2024, with California, Arizona and Texas accounting for 85% of installations. Across all segments, the sector is expected to deploy 12.8 GW/36.9 GWh in 2024.
