Chinese perovskite cell manufacturer MicroQuanta Semiconductor has announced the successful grid connection of an 8.6 MW ground-mounted PV plant in Lishui, Zhejiang Province. The factory in eastern China – the largest in the world to be built with perovskite solar technology – integrates agriculture with solar energy.

The facility is located on previously unused land in the mountainous province of Songyang and features 95,648 MicroQuanta α-perovskite modules. The 90W modules measure 1,245mm x 635mm and weigh 12.5kg. The panels are tilted at an angle of 22 degrees, taking advantage of the natural slope of the site. To enable agricultural use under the solar panels, the bottom edge of the panels is placed 2 meters above the ground.

The project – designed for the region’s hot, rainy summers and mild winters – is adapted to varying sun exposure and crop needs, combining renewable energy with agriculture.

MicroQuanta said its perovskite modules outperform conventional passivated emitter and back contact panels (PERC) in less favorable sunlight conditions, such as those in southern China, due to their low temperature coefficient, excellent low-light performance and cost-efficiency.

The modules have passed stability certification according to the updated International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards IEC 61215 and IEC 61730. MicroQuanta has also become the world’s first perovskite solar cell company to obtain certification from the German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technology (VDE).

The company offers a 25-year linear performance warranty and a 12-year product warranty on its panels. In 2019, the research team set a conversion efficiency record of 14.24% for a large-area perovskite solar panel. In May 2022, the company claimed a world record with a conversion efficiency of 20.2% on a 20 cm² “third generation” solar cell.
