Sembcorp Utilities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industrieshas said it has completed acceptance testing to enable its 588 MW solar project Oman. It reached the milestone more than four months ahead of schedule.

The Manah II independent solar project operates in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate in northeastern Oman. Sembcorp and Jinko Power won the construction contract in early 2023. In addition to the Manah I project, awarded to Korea’s Western Power Co., it will provide 1 GW of combined solar capacity.

Sembcorp’s website describes the project as the first green renewable energy development in the Middle East and the largest utility-scale solar farm in the world.

A twenty-year PPA is now in place with Nama Power and Water Procurement Co., the sole purchaser of power and water capacity and production in Oman.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Oman had 672 MW of installed solar capacity at the end of 2023. The country has set a goal to increase the amount of renewable energy sources in its energy mix to 30% by 2030.

Earlier this month, Nama Power and Water Procurement launched a tender for one 280 MW solar installation. The application deadline is February 3, 2025.
